Here is a list of programs that we provide to help in the education of our students.

Media Center Catalog - CHECK OUT THE NEW CATALOG!!! You can find book sets, subject tubs, audio books, and educational videos.

Worldbook Online - Check out the research libraries, primary source data available at a touch in the areas of American history and political science.

Digital Pipeline - Facts on File and Ebsco Magazine Subscriptions from the state.

WorldCat - Find a book in all libraries. Then email your librarian to request the book.

Alaskan Newspapers - Juneau Empire, Anchorage Daily News, and Fairbanks Daily News Miner are all fulltext and searchable for current and past issues.

Database Collection - Collections of information on all different topics.

Battle of the Books - Students read 12-15 books and test their knowledge in competition with other students in the district and the state of Alaska. Use the link for more information.

Reading is Fundamental - We give books away to students five times a year. Schools provide a reading promotional activity on the distribution days. Check out this link for ideas of what you can do.

Young Readers Choice - Students read different books throughout the year and vote on their favorite in March. The winning book receives an award.

Success For All - The reading program for the BSSD. We have Targetted Treasure Hunts and book sets to check out to help your students reading improvement.

Frontpage Newspapers - "Today's Front Pages" is an online presentation of one of the Newseum's most popular exhibits. Every morning, more than 300 newspapers from around the world submit their front pages to the Newseum via the Internet.

PBS.org - This Web site, provided by the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS), is home to more than 1,000 television show companion sites in addition to Web-original sites. PBS Online hosts interactive content for everyone - including kids, parents..

Library of Congress - I cannot reccommend a resource more for primary source documents than the Library of Congress.

Citation Machine - Citation Machine is an interactive Web tool designed to assist teachers in modeling the proper use of information property.

Alaska Native Knowledge Network - This is a huge resource for Alaska Native education and issues.

Alaska History and Cultural Studies - Information for teaching Alaska history and cultural awareness.

Anchorage Telephone Directory - GCI Yellow Pages

Alaskool - Resources for teaching Alaskan issues

Smithsonion Arctic Studies Collection

FREE - Federal Resources for Educational Excellence, this is a good source for links to information.

Interlibrary Loan - If we don't have the materials that you need, we will find a library, either in district or out of district, that does have it for you.

Children's Search Engines and Directories

Ask Jeeves for Kids
Ask Jeeves a question and he'll try to answer by providing a webpage that should have the answer.

Fact Monster
This site, from the Learning Network, is loaded with facts for students from K-12. Included is a searchable atlas, almanac, dictionary, and encyclopedia.

Kids Search Tools
A single page that contains search boxes to several childrens search engines and ready reference resources.

KidsClick
Created by librarians for kids, this site has three search features including a directory; search by alpha listing; and search by word.

KidsClick! (Dewey Arrangement)
A unique feature on the KidsClick site is the ability to search the selected sites by Dewey order or as they say through the "Librarian's Eyes."

Yahooligans
Yahoo designed for young people from 7-12 years old. The site began in 1996 and is the oldest major directory for children.

Librarians Indexed Internet
LII is extremely helpful since it provides reliable resources, not like other commercial search engines.

Media Tubs
The media tubs have been set up with all the resources that we could find to teach different topics. They include books, posters, videos, software, and realia.

These lists were made to make it easier for teachers to find the materials that are appropriate to the levels they are teaching. Please feel free to email Darla if there are any tubs that you think are too hard or too easy for the levels they are in with.
