Forensic Science with eDynamic LearningFingerprints. Blood spatter. DNA analysis. The world of law enforcement is increasingly making use of the techniques and knowledge from the sciences to better understand the crimes that are committed and to catch those individuals responsible for the crimes. Forensic science applies scientific knowledge to the criminal justice system. This course focuses on some of the techniques and practices used by forensic scientists during a crime scene investigation (CSI). Starting with how clues and data are recorded and preserved, the student will follow evidence trails until the CSI goes to trial, examining how various elements of the crime scene are analyzed and processed.

BSSD Curriculum Update!
by John Concilus - Tuesday, August 17, 2010, 12:40 PM

Hello,

Just wanted to let everyone know that all BSSD standards and the "matrix" documents for each level have been updated to reflect the work of the CASC group at the end of May.

If you downloaded standards or other documents during the summer, you will want to check them for changes wink

Changes to the iCommunity include:

  • All standards changes, tweaks and additions made in DART
  • Renamed standards mapped to new values
  • 110 updated EOL tests, assessment guides, rubrics and other support documents formatted and uploaded to the iCommunity
  • Outdated documents removed (as directed by the CASC Google Docs)
  • 213 new "Matrix" documents created from the CASC suggestions ( in both Excel & Open Office formats)
  • All content areas have a zipped file of all standards and matrices at the top of the screen. Individual copies are also being uploaded to each level, but the documents are the same as those contained in this file.
Note: In addition to the standard number and short name in the Matrix documents, we have added the full text of each standard as it appears in DART rather than have a separate document.

To view the hidden column in the level matrix files, just highlight columns A and C, and then go to Format > Column > Show (if using Open Office) or to Format > Column > Unhide (if using Excel).

Like this example from the Writing content area:

Step One

And then:

Step 2

Or, if using Excel, like this:

Step One (Excel)

Finally, we will also create a comprehensive "master" document with all standards as we have in prior years for ready access, and link that to the main menu in the iCommunity. It will be a few days before we can create and verify that document.

As always, let us know if you find errors or omissions.

Hope this helps as you prepare for the opening of school. Have a great startup!

Regards,

JTC

Personal/Social/Health?
by Bria Chimenti - Monday, June 28, 2010, 07:06 PM

I am returning to the BSSD in August and was writing lessons for the fall. While fitting lessons with Standards, I noticed no PSH content area. Has this been done away with? I see that there is a "Life Skills" content area now and Level 3 is "Healthy Living." I am just curious about the seeming condensing of PSH into different sections?

Also...Science, which I was quite involved in for a few years before leaving AK...I know there are Process Standards, which need to be achieved at every level, but I am a bit confused on the Content Standards. How are Earth, Physical and Life Science divided? A student in Level 3 has a year to complete all of the Level 3 Standards in each science area? Hmm...

I look forward to hearing from you on this! wink
