by Gary Jacobson.
Thanks, Karen, for the excellent resource. I've long kept a bookmark folder of ebooks, and I appreciate having Project Gutenberg to add to my list. I feel compelled, then, to share:

http://digital.library.upenn.edu/books/
http://www.friedbeef.com/best-places-to-get-free-books-the-ultimate-guide/
http://www.truly-free.org/ (limit of five per month)
http://darkwing.uoregon.edu/~rbear/ren.htm
http://www.writing.upenn.edu/pennsound/x/authors.php (mp3 files)
http://www.readprint.com/
http://book.populair.eu/ (not for everyone)

by Karen Beranek.
There is an excellent site for downloading audiobooks or ebooks. There is quite a selection. If the link doesn't work just copy the web address.

http://www.gutenberg.org

by Greg Johnson.
During our Iditarod working weekend, Terry Reed from Koyuk shared the best map resource I have ever seen: The Perry-Castaneda Library Map Collection that is shared out from the University of Texas Austin. It holds maps from all over the world and maps of all types. The selection of Alaska maps is extensive. I appreciated the fact that the maps from the site print out beautifully. The site is incredibly easy to navigate and, as a bonus, provides you with links to many other map sites. This site will be my first stop any time I am looking for a map in the future.

by Diane Crockett.
At this point there really isn't a lot of control over the organization of the dictionaries, and anyone can enter any word and create a page, or add to an existing word.

There is an inherent flexibility in the use of templates and categories that are assembled within the wiki, and this is not a perfect system.

The great thing is, that the Dictionaries are having "growing pains". Most importantly, the dictionaries are growing, and this is what we want!

There has to be some good ways to solve these problems, and I know people are thinking about them.

Hopefully people will still think this is a worthwhile project and will be willing to contribute to it as we sort out the challenges. Like most projects that involve students, things are messy!

I agree with you, ideally we want to be able to search for words in a number of different dialects, and in English.

Glad you are looking so far ahead.

Ginger

by Helenmarie Sinnok.
Hey Vanessa,
I see some very busy people adding words, which is great. This idea is too cool, because it can go so very far and in the end it will be enormous. I hadn't thought about this before or even noticed it, but someone pointed it out, and I checked. The first Inupiaq word entrant has control of the definition. One example is Dog - different spellings for different dialects. If the second dialect has a different spelling, then they are not listed on the main glossary - unless they re-enter under their own spelling of the word, right? Therefore, the second dialect with a different spelling requires entering a second english glossary for dog. It may be possible, and I would think, the same goes for the Yupik dictionary. So, would it be difficult to seperate the dialects into their own threads?
Bessi
